For the second time, a Waltonville Spartan has won Player Of The Week. This time, it is senior Gage Peterson winning our Joe’s Pizza & Pasta Player of the Week for January 19-24.
Peterson helped lead the Spartans to the final Midland Trail Conference Tournament Championship. Waltonville beat rival Woodlawn in a rematch 53-34 as Woodlawn was the host of the 95th Midland Trail Conference Tournament. Peterson led the Spartans with 23 points in succession of breaking the previous school record of 1,995 points held by Ryan Norris, and then he hit 2,000 career points, where he now sits at 2,001.
During the week, Peterson averaged 20.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 blocks, and capped it with the Midland Trail Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Peterson and the Spartans now prepare for two 3A opponents. On the road at Marion, and then they will play the Centralia Orphans in the Panther Showcase. Below is a link to the preview story for Centralia and Waltonville, both of which are state ranked in their individual classes.
