T-Minus 4 days until high school football is back! We kick things off with Week Zero, and there are plenty of intriguing scrimmages this week:

Johnston City @ West Frankfort

Marion @ Harrisburg

Hamilton County @ Benton

Murphysboro @ Mt. Vernon

Carbondale @ Chester

There are many more, but these are some of the most intriguing scrimmages around the area.

Looking ahead to Week 1, the only ranked matchup features the #2 Marion Wildcats hitting the road to face the #9 Carterville Lions. While there aren’t any other ranked showdowns, several rivalry games highlight the slate:

Carbondale Terriers vs. Murphysboro Red Devils

Centralia Orphans vs. Salem Wildcats

Benton Rangers vs. Herrin Tigers (their first meeting since 2022)

DuQuoin Indians vs. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces (New two year agreement)
