The Benton Rangers hold their top spot after a thrilling homecoming victory over the Nashville Hornets, 34-24. The Rangers trailed 24-7 at one point before scoring 27 unanswered points, led by senior running back Riley Spencer, who rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns. The Carterville Lions and Cahokia Comanches remain at No. 2 and No. 3 after both teams picked up big conference wins. The Lions received one first-place vote, while Cahokia picked up two.
The Centralia Orphans jumped back into the top five after a dominant 55-28 homecoming win over the previously No. 4 Marion Wildcats. Centralia was powered by its sophomore trio: quarterback Archie Goewey threw for 360 yards and seven touchdowns, Kenny Bratton tallied 147 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions, and Kruz Jackson added 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns. That sets up a huge battle in Cahokia this week with major South Seven championship implications.
The Johnston City Indians and DuQuoin Indians each fell one spot to No. 5 and No. 6 after Centralia’s surge. The Richland County Tigers moved up one spot to No. 7, and despite their loss, Nashville holds steady at No. 8. The Marion Wildcats dropped all the way to No. 9 following their defeat. Rounding out the top 10 are the Chester Yellowjackets, who reentered the poll after a 42-21 win at Carlyle.
