We have our top 5 quarterback stats in Southern Illinois as we head into the high school football playoffs. These are ranked by passing yards.
At #1 is senior quarterback from Marion Callahan Roper with 2,801 passing yards on the season, and he is 3 yards shy of tying the all-time career passing yards record at Marion. The record is 6,001. Roper has thrown 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 64% completion percentage, and has a 122.9 passer rating. The Wildcats are 6-3 heading into the playoffs, and play at Mahomet-Seymour.
At #2 is junior quarterback from Carbondale Devin Wooley, the only other quarterback to break 2,000 passing yards sitting at 2,182. He has thrown for 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 106 passer rating. The Terriers finished the season 3-6 and missed the playoffs.
At #3 is sophomore quarterback from Centralia Archie Goewey. Goewey helped lead the Orphans to a home playoff game in a rematch vs Cahokia. Goewey passed for more than 1,800 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only five interceptions, and he had a 115.9 passer rating.
At #4 is sophomore quarterback from Nashville Cole Stiegman. Stiegman passed for 1,760, 19 passing touchdowns, and 7 interceptions with 109 passer rating. The Hornets hit the road in the first round of the playoffs at Flora.
At #5 is senior quarterback Tray Peters from Chester. He helped lead the Chester Yellowjackets to another 8-1 season. He passed for more than 1,500 yards, 25 touchdowns, and only five interceptions, and 133 passer rating.
