Benton senior safety and wide receiver Nolan Schafer is the week 5 Rend Lake Cabins in the Woods Player of the Week.

Schafer was unstoppable in the Rangers’ 56–7 win over Anna-Jonesboro, spoiling the Wildcats’ homecoming with 107 receiving yards and three touchdowns on just three catches. Schafer also had 70 yards on punt returns, helping set the Rangers up with great field position.Through five games, the senior has totaled 257 yards and six scores, while also being a major factor on defense.

His impact has helped Benton roll to a 5–0 start at the midway point of the season, making the Rangers one of the most dangerous teams in the SIRR Mississippi conference.

This Friday, Schafer and the Rangers return home for their own homecoming, facing Nashville in a huge conference matchup. Both teams are 2–0 in conference play, with Nashville coming off a 41–6 homecoming win against West Frankfort.
